Attic Remodel for Guests and Quilting
An unfinished attic turned into a quilting studio, a guest room, a guest bathroom and a sitting area.
The homeowner was caring for her aging mother, and both of them are wheelchair bound. That single fact decided the whole project. Access to an attic is normally the last thing anybody thinks about, and here it had to be the first.
We installed the chair glide early in the build rather than at the end, so the homeowner could use it, live with it and tell us what needed changing while there was still time to change it. Fitting a stairlift properly starts with assessing the staircase and the attic entrance for width, steepness and available power, then choosing a style and finish that suits the house. We trained the household on operating it and we still handle its maintenance and repairs.
The bathroom was built around a curbless shower stall with a transfer seat, so there is no lip to cross and no balancing act at the point where most bathroom accidents happen.
Both owners of this company hold the Certified Aging-In-Place designation from the National Association of Home Builders, and this is the kind of project it exists for.
